New Facebook 101

Facebook got a makeover.... we've made a guide to help you navigate the new features!

  •
  •
Top Stories - You'll now see the "most important" stories on the top of your newsfeed first. These are designated by a blue marker in the top left-hand corner of the post. Most often, these stories will be photo and video uploads, life events, and status updates.
  •
New Stories - You can see all your friends' recent updates by clicking the "See New Stories" link at the top of the "Top Stories" nav bar.
  •
The Ticker - displays your friends' likes, comments, and photo uploads in real time in a separate side column (you'll find it on the right-hand side of your screen) instead of your news feed. Though there's no way to close the Ticker entirely, you can make it smaller. Just drag the divider between the Ticker and the Chat window up.
  •
Smartlists - Facebook started lists for you that contain family, close friends, co-workers, high school friends, and people who live in your area. You can click on these lists to see updates from just those people.
  •
Manage Smartlist Content - Within these Smartlists, you can also customize what kinds of content will be displayed, much like that of your friends' profiles. Just select a Smartlist, click "Manage List" (on the top right-hand corner), and you'll see that you can rename the list, add or remove friends, and choose which updates to show within the list.
  •
Decide What Content You'll See From Friends - You can decide what kind of content you'll see from your friends in your "Top News" and "New Stories" sections. On each of your friend's profiles, you can decide whether to get all of their updates, most of them, or only the important stuff. One of my favorite features — you can now choose to not get their gaming updates. You can also unsubscribe from their updates altogether but still remain Facebook friends.
