Woman Killed by Tour Bus

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 54-year-old woman, possibly riding or carrying a bicycle, was struck and killed today by a private tour bus in South Los Angeles, a police sergeant said.

But two paramedics and a motorist were injured in a crash several blocks away, as the paramedics' ambulance rushed to the stricken bicyclist.

About 8:30 a.m., the tour bus was going southbound on Figueroa Street, making a left hand turn onto eastbound Slauson Avenue, when it hit the woman who was either carrying or riding a bicycle, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Susie Padilla of the South Traffic Division.

Padilla said the bicycle was taken from the woman, prior to the arrival of police. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

``He (the tour bus driver) just didn't see her,'' the police sergeant said. ``He's fully cooperating with police."

The driver was not cited or arrested.

The California Highway Patrol closed the nearby Slauson ramps to and from the Harbor (110 Freeway), due to the police investigation, from about 9- 11:45 a.m.

Also, no one suffered any life threatening injuries when a Los Angeles City Fire Department ambulance occupied by two firefighters, en route to the traffic fatality two blocks away, crashed into another vehicle at Slauson Avenue and Hoover Street, Padilla said.

Other paramedics transported the two paramedics and the motorist in the private vehicle to an area hospital, she said.
