VILLA PARK, Calif. (AP) — A wrestling coach at an Orange County high school has been arrested for allegedly choking a student unconscious.
The Sheriff's Department says 26-year-old Emmanuel Hernandez of Orange was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of felony battery. He remains jailed.
Hernandez is a "walk-on" coach at Villa Park High School. Authorities say he grabbed a member of the team during a school practice Wednesday and put him in a chokehold, leaving him unconscious, then punched him several times in the head.
The student was treated at a hospital.
Sheriff's officials didn't immediately release a motive for the alleged attack.
