Marketing ADHD

Some doctors are saying that a marketing campaign is why more and more kids have been diagnosed with ADHD.

Dr. Keith Conners helped lead the fight to legitimize attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but he's now joining a growing number of doctors saying the skyrocketing stats of children being diagnosed is due to marketing campaigns for ADHD drugs.

In an address to other specialists, he notes recent data from the CDC show that 15 percent of high school-age kids have been diagnosed, and the number of kids on medication had soared to 3.5 million from 600,000 in 1990.

He says those numbers are preposterous. And he warns the same thing is happening for adult ADHD.
